I am fascinated by art. Probably because I can’t draw a stick figure. So when I found Victoria Chin @thedottist on Instagram I was more than fascinated and addicted to her art drawing online.
Her muse is a Boxer, Bella, and she has drawn over 100 Boxers. So needless to say she understands how to capture the unique facial traits and personality of Boxer.
Victoria also teaches online drawing classes to anyone wanting to learn to draw. Just visit her Patreon to learn how to sign up and get exclusive lessons.
If you would like to start with some free pencil drawing lessons online then head over to her Victoria Veluz YouTube channel for free drawing tutorials.
After following Victoria’s Instagram and Facebook page for almost a year I took her up on a drawing colored pencil challenge. Picking the picture of Leah, my brindle Boxer was easy. The photo below was taken when Leah had puppies.
Boxers have beautiful eyes to begin with but Lean’s eyes are just so soft, gentle and full of love. She loved her puppies so much she would literally lick them so much she rubbed the pigment off her lip.
We decided to collaborate together and have a live drawing session on my Facebook page It’s a Boxer Dog’s Life. We had viewers from Australia to Ohio watching and several people commissioned a portrait of their dog.
The above video is the hour live drawing sped up into a seven minute speed drawing.
Under the hands of a great artist a drawing is more realistic than a photograph. The dimensionality of the eyes, now and lips is like having her looking at me in real life.
When Victoria revealed the last phase of the detailed drawing I almost cried.
The detail in Leah’s eyes and her nose is amazing, I mean just look at it. Look at the texture, look at the reflection in her eyes. They almost glisten. We scheduled an hour of live drawing and the time went by so quickly. It is simply mesmerizing.
Watching Victoria draw Leah step by step was beyond fascinating. She started drawing her eyes first. She said it’s like looking into the soul of a dog and keep her company.
Victoria has a waiting list for commissions, so if you would like your dog immortalized in either a classic black and white portrait or in realistic color pencil send her a message on Victoria Veluz Art Facebook page.
