Boxer Dogs are Family Dogs
Yup, I own a Boxer, or a Boxer owns me. Her name is Leah and she’s a brindle American Boxer dog. Many people choose boxer dogs as a family dog for many reasons. But we got lucky, she was an impulse, something I always said NEVER too. But I will never regret the day Leah entered our lives.
Boxer, Boxer Training AAA AKC:
I’ve always had a dog in my life, from poodles when I was a child, to rescue dogs with unknown pedigrees. So you could say I’m a dog lover, and dog toys litter every corner of my my house. Instead of a toy box for toddlers I have a toy basket for my dogs. They don’t pick up their toys either.
Leah is the first purebred dog I’ve ever purchased, something I though I’d never do. But when I met her as a six-week old puppy I fell in love. From almost day one she walked on a leash, doesn’t jump on people and rarely barks.

Boxers have Fun Loving Temperaments and Personalities
I don’t know what it is about a Boxer dogs face, but from their droopy jowls and continuously sad looking expression Boxers smile and will make you smile.
All my previous dogs had come from shelters, rescues, and were mutts we found throughout the course of life. Never thought I would buy a puppy from a breeder. But when I saw these Boxer puppies I just fell in love. I picked this little girl up, she nuzzled my neck, snuffled in my ear and I was hooked.
I already had a Jack Russell, we just got married, and moved to a new house with a big fenced yard. My hubby couldn’t say no. As it turned out we didn’t get a puppy for us, we got a puppy for our other dog. The two are best of friends. Ok, well it’s a love hate, jealousy relationship. Each one wants what the other has, and they really are inseparable.
Since Leah is not a show dog, we decided not to clip her ears. So her Boxer ears are uncropped and hang down.
Since all my kids are grown and out of the house, my dogs have become my kids.
What Do Boxers Need?
Boxers need LOT of room to play, run, and bounce. Leah loves to play fetch, tug of war and carries around her stuffed dog toys like babies. She didn’t chew on shoes when she was a puppy, but during her teenage years, we didn’t leave shoes on the living room floor.
Boxers are very active and intelligent and require mental stimulation to exercise their brains young and keep from getting bored. Her companion, a Jack Russell named Brody is getting older and he doesn’t like to play all the time.
I love buying dog toys, especially for Leah. Brody chews everything up and there isn’t an indestructible squeaker toy he can’t destroy in less than 15 minutes. Since I can’t keep the toys away from Brody I have to find toys both will love.

Since my Jack Russell chews up everything, I had to teach him the difference between his toys and Leah’s toys. Now if I give a plush toy to Leah he recognizes it’s hers, and he doesn’t mess with it, he respects her toys. So Leah can have plush toys and she loves them, carries them around everywhere.
When she’s excited, anxious, or nervous she gets one of her “babies” and carries it around the house. So pretty much she is always carrying a “baby” around. She even sleeps with one.

Boxer Care and Training
Did you just get a Boxer as a puppy, or thinking about getting a Boxer, read everything you can about Boxer Care and training before you bring a Boxer into your house. There are some things you may not want to know.
The Everything Boxer Book: A Complete Guide to Raising, Training, And Caring for Your Boxer
For example, did you know Boxers are prone to farting? They can clear a room! So if you a “fancy” dog who is polite in company, won’t drool, or make noxious odors in front of company you many not want a Boxer.
Boxers also drool. Some more than others. Some Boxers are experts at blowing bubbles which dribble on the dining room floor as they savor the smells of supper.
Boxers don’t tolerate hot or cold weather. They are really medium sized dogs who think they are lap dogs most of the time.
Boxers are inquisitive, curious, loyal, gentle and all around great family dogs.
Boxers are the best breed of dog. Yeah, I might be a bit biased, but this book is definitely written by a Boxer lover and is written tongue in cheek on why Boxers are the Best.
